New Market Dairy is set to play host to two of the UK’s cheesemaking giants tomorrow (Thursday 12th March) from 1.00pmonwards.
Pop down and meet Julie Cheyney and Blake Bowden the makers of two of the UK’s iconic artisan farmhouse cheeses St. Jude’s and St. Cera and taste them both.
They make these two iconic cheeses at Fen Farm Dairy, Bungay, Suffolk, using raw milk a single herd of Montbéliarde cows who yield a high protein milk, which is excellent for cheesemaking and goes into renowned cheeses such as Vacherin, Comté and Reblochon.
St. Jude’s is a small, soft, mould ripened cheese with flavours that are influenced by the seasons depending on the cow’s diet with grassy notes in spring and buttery notes in the winter. It’s sister cheese, St. Cera is a washed rind version of St. Jude, which develops stronger nutty flavours as it matures.
Their ethos is that their lactic style cheeses are made ‘slowly and gently’, to craft lovingly handmade cheeses made in small batches with great care, passion and respect - resulting in multi-award-winning cheeses.
